Mini-Review: The Tourist by Olen Steinhauer

7321634

The Tourist tries a little too hard to be a spy novel.  It used the standard checklist:

  • Mentally compromised undercover agent.
  • Russian danger.
  • Double agents and treachery.
  • Torture.
  • Black Ops.

This can work when the story is strong enough but here it just wasn’t.  The main character, Milo, is also presented as this super spy (which he isn’t) who is obsessed with protecting his family (then maybe, I don’t know, don’t lie to your wife.)

It just didn’t click for me.

2/5 stars.
